The splendid karst cavity, as already highlighted in the historical information, develops just under one and a half meters of surface rock, it is easily and comfortably accessed through a spiral staircase that leads from inside the upper trullo, a welcoming reception area. in the cave.
The structure of the trullo has three cones, that is, as if they were three intersected trulli and for this reason in the local toponymy the Putignano cave is called and is known precisely as "the Grotta del Trullo"
The cavity develops vertically with a depth of up to about 19 meters while the horizontal path extends for a total of 62 meters, as a whole, the main cave is divided, for ease of visit, into two parts: the cavity upper and lower. Inside, visitors will perceive a constant temperature of around 15 ° C. At this point the part accessible to visitors and tourists ends.
Then there is a "speleological path", absolutely inaccessible and forbidden to the public, which leads to a further cave discovered only in 2006 which goes down for another twenty meters. The path is tortuous and very narrow in which the underground waters that contribute to increasing the karst phenomenon flow and disperse in a multiplicity of secondary "tunnels".
