Farinella, with the colorful rhombus costume reminiscent of that typical of a jester jester, is the symbolic mask of the Putignano Carnival.
Designed by Mimmo Castellano (1932 - 2015), one of the leading exponents of graphics of the 60s-70s, born in Gioia del Colle, but moved to Milan in 1967, after a collaboration started in 1951 with the Laterza publishing house in Bari . boasts illustrious collaborations in the field of publishing with Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, Umberto Eco and Leonardo Sinisgalli.

Pietro Calisi (1855 - 1940), known as "Farnodd", was among the best known offshoots in the period preceding the Second World War. He was called by his friends Farnodd because he called the farinella, the symbol of the peasants' lunch during the working day! He presented himself to the Propaggini in a carriage in tails and top hats and recited his verses aloud. His shoulder in the Propaggini was Pietro Galluzzi, known as u triesten (the Triestino), who had a commercial activity in Piazza Plebiscito and was famous for having invented the so-called Cat in the Sack known in jargon as "u cartocc", a package with surprises inside of. which was sold in all commercial shops of the time.
