Four parades in total, three of which on Sunday (usually the last three Sundays before Lent) and one on Shrove Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, about one hundred thousand visitors each year, a path of about one kilometer these are some of the numbers that concern the event of the Carnival in Putignano.
Along the path that surrounds the ancient village, defined for this reason Estramural, the allegorical floats parade on their wheels that present the papier-mâché giants that the masters have prepared following the sketch presented to the Carnival Foundation with the theme that the latter presented to the participants in the competition. Since 1939 the route has been running from the main street, Corso Umberto I to draw a sort of hook and end at Largo Porta Nuova, a large space overlooking Via Castellana Grotte. The direction of travel of the parade over the decades has undergone reversals.
Each allegorical float is interspersed with themed masked groups and character masks, which parade, dance, have fun and entertain the guest audience.
Each parade is a party with more than three hours of show, where everything is allowed, wigs, colored hats, masks of the most disparate subjects and confetti. Password "Leave your worries at home" to enjoy a moment of pure fun in the company of family or friends.
The artistic / musical animation continues even after the parade with the path accessible only to pedestrians who can admire the papier-mâché giants stationed in strategic points ready to be co-protagonists in the selfies of thousands of tourists and guests.
