The church of the Madonna del Carmine is practically annexed to the ancient Carmelite convent built between the end of 1600 and the beginning of 1700 on the ruins of the castle which was built and then demolished by Frederick II. Today the entire structure apart from the church is the seat of the Municipality of Putignano.

The size of the church is 28 meters long and 13 meters wide and is the seat of a parish dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine, has a Latin cross plan, with a single nave, decorated with composite pilasters and entablatures. The nave is interspersed with arches that delimit the compartment of the chapels and the vault is barrel vaulted with lunettes.

The canvas of the Madonna del Carmine placed on the high altar is very old and, according to the memoirs of the lawyer. Giovanni Casulli, was built in Naples in 1571 by the painter Giovanni Antonio Sabato at the expense of the University (the then Municipality) of Putignano and was probably originally placed in the Chapel of the Convent of the Carmelite Fathers even before the construction of the Church.
